2공구는 전체 복원구간 5.8㎞의 중심부로 광장시장부터 난계로까지 2.1㎞에 해당한다. 옛 시절의 청계천변은 빨래하는 아낙들의 수다, 천변의 노름판, 천변 길을 요란스레 지나는 자전거와 인력거, 개천을 놀이터 삼아 하루 종일 뛰어 노는 아이들의 모습들로 활기가 넘치는 곳이었다.

2공구는 광장시장에서 동대문시장, 황학시장에 이르는 주변시장의 활기찬 모습과 서민의 삶과 문화가 묻어나는 옛 청계천의 정서가 살아 있는 곳이다. 위치적으로는 1공구의 도시적 맥락과 3공구의 자연을 이어주는 거점으로서 전체 하천 경관의 허리 역할을 하고 있다.

이러한 지역성과 맥락을 고려하고 복잡한 도시 공간 속에서 그 동안 가려진 역사, 문화와 삶의 흔적들을 찾아내고, 자연과 사람이 만나는 쾌적한 오픈스페이스를 제공하는‘도시의 녹색여백(Green Line)’이 중요한 주제다.

This is a proposal for a urban stream(Cheong-Gye) restoration competition at Seoul city. It was selected as a winning entry in a design competition and is scheduled for construction in 2003. Main idea of this project was solving a ‘safety’ problem around this area and creating a eco-friendly place for the city. It was also supposed to recover cultural and historical assets and build this area as a leader of local economic revitalization.

The second section of work that we were charged in includes 2.1km out of 5.8km of core area from the Gwang-Jang market to the Nan-Gyeo Street. In the past, Cheong-Gye stream was very energetic. Womenfolk chattered while they laundered, people sit along the stream and gambled, children could run and play along the stream for all day and the path was filled with bicycles and rickshaws.

Especially Dongdae Moon Market and the Hwang-hak Market at this second work section still have those dynamic feature of ordinary people who used to be lived in this area. Geographically, second section connects first work section(urban) and third work section(nature) and plays an important role to systematize of this site.

Thus it is a fundamental idea that provide delightful open space to connect people and nature, to find out past culture and history and trace over our life on them, we call this ‘Green Line’.
